Here is the finished coat, this was such a fun project and both working with fur and this coat pattern were much easier than I had anticipated. It's true that it doesn't really get very cold here in Hong Kong - we get warnings when it gets to 10C (50F), but after 10 years of living here I am a complete wimp in the cold so it will definitely get some wear over the winter.
It's funny that fake fur coats seems to be popping up on blogs everywhere all of a sudden and I certainly had not planned on buying fur when I went fabric shopping last week - must be something in the air.
Anyway - pictures!
I decided to stick with the full length sleeves.
I added a fun printed satin lining from the stash.
I found this similar look online so decided to try it belted for a different look, I think this would be more successful with a thinner fur (or a thinner body!).
Bottega Veneta faux fur coat, A/W 2010
Your coat is very glamorous!
ReplyDeleteThis is very gorgeous. My dad got me the short version to yours a couple of years ago. Fur can be so comforting when it gets cold.
ReplyDeleteVery nice!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I agree it's better without the belt. I'm never very convinced by that look anyway - it never seems very practical unless the coat has belt loops to hold the belt when you want to open the coat. Can't wait to see what you do next.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, I'm green with envy - this coat is gorgeous. I love everything about it - the style, the faux fur, the lining. It looks so glamorous and warm!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coat! Fur is making a comeback so you are right in style!
ReplyDeleteLovely coat!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun coat - you look great!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful! Love the quality of the fur.
ReplyDeleteWOW! The coat looks amazing! I love it.
ReplyDeleteYour coat is gorgeous!! I love it.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous coat! It looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteI think it works really well with a belt. I do remember Hong Kong February's on the Peak (a beat-up old house on Lugard Road) as being absolutely freezing and having to go to sleep wearing two sweaters when my little heater broke down. Not to mention, the fog which wrapped us in humid clouds and required a dehumidifier the size of a small elephant needing emptying twice a day.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll be wearing that coat many times!
Love it, it looks great both ways.
ReplyDeleteLove it, very glamorous. And so cosy - I have a faux fur coat and a real shearling coat, and depending on where I am going, I often wear one of them on airplanes, it becomes my own little cushion/comforter!
ReplyDeleteI am always cold so fur of any kind is great.
So maybe you will have a chance to wear it when you travel.
Love it and I think it looks good with the belt, too!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Your lining choice is great and I like the longer sleeves. Have fun wearing it!
ReplyDeleteNow that'a a faux fur coat! What fantastic weather. It's freezing here where I am and that coat would be perfect. Love it belted too and you look great in it!
ReplyDeleteYour coat is stunning!
ReplyDeleteThis is insanely gorgeous. I actually like it best belted! I am green with envy. I would love to have this in my closet.
ReplyDeleteOh I love it. This is the coat I've been wanting for evenings out for year. Like Hong Kong Sydney doesn't get very cold, but hey I'm originally from sub-equatorial Queensland. Faux fur is hard to get here, so I have to come looking in Hong Kong!
ReplyDeleteOh that is sooooo glamorous! Love it!
ReplyDeleteHow cool.
ReplyDeleteOMG, that coat is AMAZING! You did a beautiful job on it! Even though you may not get to wear it a ton each season, I bet this will be somthing you'll be thrilled to have at your disposal for many years to come.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous coat - very celebrity!! And hey - 10 degrees is cold in my books!
ReplyDeleteVery glamourous, with a beautiful lining. The shape is very flattering without a belt, it makes a nice A-line that slims your legs and makes the eye travel upward to your face. Belted coats that look good are really a runway phenomenon, IMO, and a fur coat? Anything with a pile? No, not for those of us who aren't paid to be underweight by WHO standards.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very glamorous look and I disagree, I think that it totally works on you belted.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous... Great job
ReplyDeleteOutstanding! The coat to luxurious.
ReplyDeleteFabulous coat! Looks great belted or without. I wonder how long it will take me to jump on the faux fur wagon!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous coat. Love it belted. And the linning is awesome!
