This is the faux fur coat I am working on, from Burda 10/2008 - 101.
The main coat pieces are put together and I have already assembled the lining so this project is coming together really fast (for me). This is partly because the pattern was designed for fur and as such has a very simple shape, but the main reason is that the fur just makes such a mess I want to get it assembled as quickly as possible. After I had cut it out it looked like there had been a black snow blizzard in my sewing room! I am still finding bits of turquoise silk around my apartment from the dress I made in November so I think I will be finding tufts of fur for years!
Here is the coat so far. I cut the full length sleeves from view 102 which are meant to be gathered at the wrists so I am finding these ones way too long and also possibly too wide so I may change them back to the 3/4 length or alter them. I still have hems, lining and fastenings to do, but I hope to have this finished in the next couple of days.
After the Christmas green eyelashes I am sure you are all waiting with bated breath for my next cosmetics post so let me share my latest manicure with you - China Glaze holographic polish, I can't stop looking at it!
Olá, foi uma bela troca, de biquine para casaco de peles, rssss, seu casaco ficou lindo, muito glamuroso e as unhas estão um luxo. Parabéns.

That is one glamorous coat! The nail polish is pretty fab too!
ReplyDeleteFun, fun, fun!! The coat and the nails are both totally glam. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThat coat is great and I love the nail color.
ReplyDeleteIf you cut fur by snipping the back side, the fabric only, without slashing through the whole thing, you don't end up with fur bunnies in the corner, or just minimal ones. Also, if you sew as Sandra Betzina preconises, no seam allowances and just zigzagging over the edge after combing gently the fur to the inside, you have no need of this orgy of allowance shaving that everyone seems to indulge in, and which will cause much more loose fur to lodge in every corner of your sewing room.. Really, fake fur is fun, and housework is not, this shouldn't be masochism :-).
ReplyDeleteYour coat is really looking fabulous. I want to try sewing faux fur sometime. I love your nails, too. If there is one thing I love, it is nail polish.
ReplyDeleteVery fun coat - great style selection for that fabric.
ReplyDeleteIs it very cold where you are? I have a faux fur coat hanging in my closet which I made when I lived in SF, I never wear it anymore, seems a bit too fancy for the suburbs :)
Looks great - keep that vacuum handy! Love the polish, very sparkly.
ReplyDeleteThat is a cozy looking coat, and yes, you will be finding faux fur tufts to the end of time!
ReplyDeleteUmm, wow, this is fabulous! I would even wear this to work occasionaly if I needed a happy morning pick me up. Can't wait to see the finished project!
ReplyDeleteGosh, I really need to make one of these for next fall/winter.

ReplyDeleteOK, OK, spelling corrected!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the most amazing coat pattern ever! I've used it twice already, both times I used regular felted wool fabric and it turned out amazing. Very versatile and also a great patter for all sorts of alterations; I redrafted the collar to get a more sixties coat in the style of Mad Men and it worked out perfectly.
ReplyDeleteLove your fur choices too!
Oh, Allison, the coat is beautiful. I want one too! Thanks for the encouragement. Happy New Year!

Ugh, now you're making me jones for a faux fur coat too. Yours looks so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove your faux! I'm pretty much at the same stage as you with my version --- need to do the hems, closures and the lining. I tried it on and felt so glamorous --- unfortunately, I was wearing a black outfit and ended up with an immense amount of gray fibers all over my clothes! A lint brush is a must! Can't wait to see your finished version!
