BurdaStyle 07/2005 - 128 Cold Shoulder Top
No that's not a typo this really is a pattern from 2005. Cold shoulder tops are back so I dug out this old pattern to use up a remnant of black knit. I'm surprised there haven't been more tops like this in Burda recently, but it does make me feel better about hoarding these aging pattern magazines. I guess not many people still have this issue so I'll keep this brief!

Unsurprisingly I can't find the line drawing anywhere online, but Style Arc have a very similar pattern (the top of the sleeve is shaped differently) with an option for short or long sleeves.
I finished the neckline with a folded strip of fabric rather than just turning and stitching per the instructions - it's quite a curved neckline, I just couldn't see that working well. However I did just turn and finish the shoulder edges with a twin needle, it's a bit rough and ready if I'm honest, but for a trendy item made from scraps it will do just fine!

It just proves that you should never throw out those old Burda issues. It's certainly current and looks great on you. I guess it's still a bit warm in Hong Kong.
ReplyDeleteBurda magazine patterns are CLASSICS! If you have enough old issues you can always find a detail you can use on a more contemporary project. I love my old Burda magazines, look at them all the time, even though they're falling apart. I made the same exact top a while ago; yours looks really good.

ReplyDeleteThis is why any true #burdafangirl has to hoard all the issues of her subscription! You can never know when you need something, but you ALWAYS know Burda will have it! LOL. Is that a vertical+horizontal stretch knit? I have the Burda Easy issue but the bodice of that cold-shoulder top seems loose. I'm wondering if you need a special knit or a regular horizontal stretch knit will work. What do you think? I love everything you make, really! And you have some great fabrics.

Ah, I love it! No shame in housing a collection of the old Burdas. I bought a bunch on eBay from before I started sewing. 2005-2008 had some GREAT pieces! It's weird to think that it's a decade old... it looks so modern. I'm sure you will get a lot of use out of it.

ReplyDeleteThis is why I don't want to get rid of my old BWOF magazines! Love the top on you and like Gail I am also going to experiment with my TNT t-shirt pattern, that is if I don't have the BWOF issue!
