In other news my husband has a business trip to LA so we are making a trip out of it and will spend a few days in LA, Santa Barbara and Palm Springs, we leave on Friday and I'm really looking forward to it. If anyone has any must do travel tips please share! Also I know it sounds insane but does anyone know where I might be able to buy a roll of tracing paper while I am there? I can only get it in sheets here and it's sometimes more expensive than my fabric!

McCall's 5752 Knit Dress
Here is my finished version of the so called "perfect knit dress". I made view B, the short sleeve version without a tie belt. While it's probably not absolutely perfect, I am pretty happy with it and in fact have another one in progress. This is a Palmer/Pletsch pattern and the instructions are more like a sewing lesson than the usual ones with a whole section on fitting and tips scattered throughout. The pattern pieces also come with adjustment lines printed on them for common fitting adjustments. Not that I really used the instructions, this is a very simple dress to sew.

Lovely dress! Funny too as I have that fabric in my stash. :) Enjoy the US, you lucky duck.
ReplyDeleteGreat dress, I've got that pattern and you've got me thinking I should make it up sooner than later! In LA, there is a huge designer fabric store called "Mood Fabrics", I am sure you'll find paper there (and some pretty fabrics to take home as souvenirs)!
ReplyDeleteVery flattering! And lucky you off to LA! Have fun :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress, enjoy your trip!
ReplyDeleteVery flattering dress on you. Have a really good trip!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty dress. I love the fabric you chose. This pattern and some accompanying black jersey is waiting for me to get around to it. As for the tracing paper, I'm not from LA, but I always get mine from a store called Hobby Lobby, and buy it in a big roll in the art section. You might check to see if they have one of those stores there.
ReplyDeleteI love this dress. I have this pattern and really need to make it!
ReplyDeleteI don't think that you'll find paper at Mood, at least the NY store doesn't carry it, though they do carry everything else! Tailoring supply stores exist do exist in LA, so if no one else gives you a suggestion I suggest you look in the yellow pages when you get to your hotel room. If the room doesn't have a phone book, ask the desk to look it up for you. If you are only looking for tracing paper look for a drafting or art supply store. I buy tracing paper from National Drafting on line.
Have a wonderful time and hopefully the 100 degree plus weather they've been having will have gone by then. That's fahrenheit.
What a lovely dress!
ReplyDeleteThe dress and the fabric is beautiful. I've just added this pattern to my list of must haves.
ReplyDeleteAs far as tracing paper goes, I go to a medical supply store and buy a big roll of medical examination paper, the kind that you sit on when you go to the doctor. It is see through, sturdy and very inexpensive.
You dress looks gorgeous on you!
ReplyDeleteVrey chic! I love how it looks on you. I'm no expert in LA as I've only been once. But, I do know there is an article on PR about LA fabric stores to start. I don't recall seeing any tailoring supplies while I was there though. So, my first recommendation would be the FIDM school store. I'm thinking they, of all people, should carry it.
ReplyDeleteThat dress looks really pretty on you...
ReplyDeleteThe Mood website is listing pattern paper, the alpha numeric kind for $4 for 10 yards, if that is what you are looking for.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress! I can see why you have another one cut out and ready to go! Enjoy the trips to the States and I hope you get to go to Mood Fabrics.
ReplyDeleteLooks great on you! Especially in this print.
ReplyDeleteI also buy medical supply paper (crepe exam table paper). I bought a case, which will last for years.
That's a lovely dress. Now I have to add that to my pattern list.
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks fabulous on you! Nice print. In Santa Barbara (I LOVE this town), there's a neat fabric store call Fine Fabrics (http://www.finefabrics.com/) that is worth checking out. I haven't been there since they moved, but they had wonderful things when I visited. Have a great time!
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks lovely on you!! Have fun on your trip!
ReplyDeleteGreat dress! Enjoy Cali!
ReplyDeleteI buy rolls of tracing paper from Blick Art Supplies, they have several locations throughout LA and are inexpensive. Enjoy your trip :))
